CAPELLA AMADEUS STRING ORCHESTRA

Established in 1993, the objective of Capella Amadeus is to perform classical music of high quality by all recognized composers from the western world as well as works by non-western composers (including Indonesia) who have achieved a high degree of renown, nationally as well as internationally.

Members of the orchestra are selected by the leader, Ms. Sudargo herself, and comprise the school’s teachers and advanced students.
Performing being the ultimate aim of any musical group, Capella Amadeus provides the perfect outlet for the students to practice what they have learnt.

Invitation from foreign institution expanding audiences,
among others are the ASEAN in An evening of women in music
and the inauguration of new German School in Bumi Serpong Damai, Jakarta.

Capella Amadeus presents two concerts every year in Jakarta. Starting with about ten players at its debut in 1993, the orchestra now consists of some 15 members.
Its repertoire that in the first three years consisted largely of pre-Mozart compositions, now has expanded considerably.
Works by the likes of Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Britten, Janacek, Brott, etc. are now included in Capella Amadeus’ fare for study and eventual performance.


Though changes of personnel have occurred over the years, former participants even from as far as Germany return to take part in the orchestra’s performances that from the very beginning have always been sold-out events. Noted Indonesian artists too have taken part in the orchestra’s performances.
Apart from the biannual self-organized concerts, Capella Amadeus, where possible, also fulfills requests for performances at special events and for special purposes.
Noted among these are charity concerts in Jakarta and Bandung, and cooperation with visiting foreign artists, such as the concert with two German guitarists at Erasmus Huis.

The routine self-organized concert, Capella   Amadeus String Concert on August 1998 also celebrating the 5th anniversary of Capella Amadeus.

CHARITY CONCERTS

The most moving appearance in 1998, the charity concerts amid the ruins of churches destroyed during upheavals in downtown Jakarta. The event was meant to raise funds to rebuild the churches.
