Music
may achieve the highest of all missions:
she may be a bond between nations, races, and states, who are strangers to one another in
many ways;
she may unite what is disunited,
and bring peace to what is hostile.
DR. MAX BENDINER
CAPELLA AMADEUS STRING ORCHESTRA
Established in 1993, the objective of Capella Amadeus is to
perform classical music of high quality by all recognized composers from the western world
as well as works by non-western composers (including Indonesia) who have achieved a high
degree of renown, nationally as well as internationally.
Members of the orchestra are selected by the leader, Ms. Sudargo herself, and comprise the schools
teachers and advanced students.
Performing being the ultimate aim of any musical group, Capella Amadeus provides the

Capella Amadeus presents two concerts every
year in Jakarta. Starting with about ten players at its debut in 1993, the orchestra now
consists of some 15 members.
Its repertoire that in the first three years consisted largely of pre-Mozart compositions,
now has expanded considerably.
Works by the likes of Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Britten, Janacek, Brott, etc. are now included
in Capella Amadeus fare for study and eventual performance.
Though
changes of personnel have occurred over the years, former participants even from as far as
Germany return to take part in the orchestras performances that from the very
beginning have always been sold-out events. Noted Indonesian artists too have taken part
in the orchestras performances.
Apart from the biannual self-organized concerts, Capella Amadeus, where possible, also
fulfills requests for performances at special events and for special purposes.
Noted among these are charity concerts in Jakarta and Bandung, and cooperation with
visiting foreign artists, such as the concert with two German guitarists at Erasmus Huis.
